One hundred of these birds were introduced in Central Park, NY between 1890 and 1891. They were released by the American Acclimatization Society who believed every bird mentioned by Shakespeare should be present in America. Currently their population has grown to well over 200 million in the North and South American Continents. They are known to congregate in flocks, or Moots, of a million or more. This gathering is called a Murmuration.
